FAQ
Questions about hiring the firm
Fee questions are on the fees page. These are the rest.
I've been served with a lawsuit. How long do I have?
Not long. The time to answer is set by court rules and starts the day you're served. Send us the papers that day, even if you're not sure you'll hire us.
Who will work on my case?
A partner who answers for it and Kai, our associate, who works it day to day. You'll have both their direct lines.
Which courts do you go to?
State and federal courts where our lawyers are admitted, and arbitrations wherever the contract sends them. Each lawyer's page lists their admissions.
Will you take over a case another firm started?
Often, yes. We'll read the file during a first look and tell you how the monthly fee would work from where the case stands.
Do you handle individuals as well as companies?
Yes, when the dispute is about a business, a contract or property: an owner in a buyout, a homeowner with a contractor, a landlord with a commercial tenant.
How fast will you reply?
By the end of the next business day, after a conflict check. If you've been served, say so in the first line.
Do you meet by video?
Yes. First looks and monthly check-ins can be by video; depositions and hearings are wherever the court holds them.
Do you do any other kind of law?
No. We only handle disputes. For contracts, wills or a business sale, we'll point you to someone we know.
