Otis Dunleavy
Partner
Represents subcontractors, suppliers, owners and policyholders in construction and coverage disputes.
Otis worked as a field engineer on commercial jobs before law school, and he still reads a set of drawings faster than a contract. His construction cases are mostly about money that didn't arrive and time that ran over. His coverage cases are for businesses whose insurers said no after a fire, a flood or a lawsuit.
Cases
- Construction disputes
- Mechanic's liens and bond claims
- Insurance coverage disputes
- Bad-faith claims

How Otis reads a job
He starts with the pay applications and the daily logs, then the drawings, then the contract. The paperwork from the site usually tells him when a job went wrong before anyone wrote a letter about it.
On coverage cases he reads the policy in the order an adjuster would, exclusions last, and writes the insurer a letter before anyone files anything.
